DUI
Abatement Award
|

Recognizing that
impaired drivers pose a significant threat to the public and
acknowledging that those Officers who achieved a proficiency in this
type of enforcement often do not receive the appropriate recognition
commensurate with their contributions. To rectify this, the Rochester
Police Department established the DUI Abatement Award. Officers, who
through preventative patrol, remove from Rochester roadways (10) drunk
or impaired drivers as indicated by the issuance of an Illinois
Uniformed Citation for the offense of 11-501 of the Illinois Vehicle
Code, within a 1 year period are authorized to wear this award. Only
professional quality arrests shall be considered when determining the
presentation of the award and this determination shall be made by the
Chief of Police. This award may be worn for a period of 1 year from the
period of the last arrest. Officers removing (100) impaired drivers
shall be awarded an Oak Leaf Cluster for each 100 such arrests.
