Rochester Police Beat

March & April 2010

*Officers responded to a disturbance on 03/04/10 at about 10:30p.m. on Natick Circle.  Evidently, the married couple living in the residence began arguing over financial matters and the female subject began cutting up the male’s debit card.  The matter was resolved only temporarily as the officers were called back to the same residence at about 12:15a.m. on 03/05/10.  Dispatch advised that the argument appeared to be very heated with both subjects yelling and screaming.  Officers arrived and began sorting out the situation.  Because there was no evidence of a battery having occurred, the male subject was allowed to leave for the evening. 

*A vehicle being driven by Terry Pierceall of Springfield was stopped as the officer reported clocking the vehicle at 81 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour speed zone.  The officer reported that the driver initially identified herself as a Tonya Little.  According to the report, the officer noticed that the driver’s speech was mumbled and slurred and he noticed a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage as she spoke.  The driver was asked to submit to field sobriety testing which she reportedly failed.  While completing paperwork for the alleged DUI arrest, officers learned that the suspect’s real name was Pierceall and not Little.  Pierceall was arrested for speeding, DUI, driving on a suspended license, and several other offenses.

*Jeffrey Norvell of Rochester was arrested on 03/11/10, at 12:30a.m.  An officer observed several subjects near the high school at about 12:30a.m.  One of the subjects was Norvell, who officers learned was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.      

*On 03/17/10, officers were sent to a residence on Mishawaka at about 3:30p.m.  The resident advised that sometime during the day their 40 inch flat screen television was taken from the residence.  There were no signs of forced entry.  A crime scene technician with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department was contacted to process the scene for evidence.

*A vehicle stop conducted on 03/20/10, at about  9:30p.m. resulted in the arrest of Jason Thorne of Kincaid.  Thorne was stopped for an alleged equipment violation.  The stop eventually led to a search of Thorne.  During this search, Thorne was found to be in possession of a bag of suspected cannabis. 

*Andrew Aldrich, of Taylorville, was driving a vehicle on Route 29 on 03/21/10 at about 10:00p.m.  This vehicle was stopped and officers learned that Aldrich was allegedly driving on a suspended license.

*At 12:20a.m. on 03/30/10, an officer clocked a vehicle traveling 47 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour speed zone on East Main Street.  As the officer followed the vehicle attempting to make a stop, he reported that he observed the vehicle swerve into the oncoming lane of travel.  He eventually stopped the vehicle on West Main Street.  The driver, identified as Nathan Shaffer of Mechanicsburg, was eventually arrested for several alleged traffic violations including DUI.

*On 04/05/10, an officer took several reports from residents who had their mailboxes damaged.  In all cases the damage occurred sometime in the earlier morning hours on the 5th.  With help from several

 citizens, the police department learned the names of potential suspects.  The subjects were spoken to by the police and admitted to the damage.  Restitution has been paid to the victims.

*A vehicle being driven by Tommy Shoulders of Lawrenceville was stopped on 04/05/10 at about 8:50p.m.  Officers learned that Shoulders was driving on a suspended license.

*Terry Myers of Buffalo was cited for allegedly driving on a revoked license on 04/10/10 at about 7:10p.m.  Myers had been traveling on East Main Street.

*After stopping a vehicle being driven by Mikell Shoffner of Springfield for an alleged speeding violation, officers were informed that Shoffner was driving while his license was suspended.  Shoffner was cited for both offenses in addition to the offense of operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

*On 04/11/10, officers were sent to a residence on Mill Street in reference to an alleged domestic battery.  Officers arrived and found that a female subject had been battered and the suspect had left the scene.  Officers contacted the suspect by telephone and then met with him at the police department.  Arrested for the alleged battery was Craig Garrett of Rochester.

*Leeanne Kinsella of Taylorville was arrested on 04/19/10, for an alleged violation of driving on a revoked license. 

*On 04/22/10, officers responded to an address on Penacook in reference to a burglary in progress.  Officers arrived and searched the residence, but did not locate anyone.  It appeared the suspects had recently left the house.  There were several items which had been removed from the house and were found just outside of the residence.  The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department was called to process the crime scene.  Several pieces of evidence have been sent to the crime lab.   

On 04/29/10, officers were sent to a residence on Mill Street in reference to a Theft report.  The victim reported she had several pieces of jewelry taken from her residence.  She last remembered seeing the items in January.  The victim reported the value of the jewelry at about $2,000.00.
