Rochester Police Beat

November & December 2009

*Between 10/27/09 and 11/03/09 four separate vehicle burglaries were reported to the department.  Two occurred in the Oak Hills subdivision, one was on Taft Drive and the other one occurred at a residence in the 500 block of South Walnut.  After receiving information from officers with the Lincoln Land Police Department, Rochester officers made contact with a suspect.  The investigation eventually resulted in the recovery of numerous items which had been stolen and in the identification of 3 suspects - 2 adults and one juvenile.  Reports have been forwarded to the States Attorney’s Office on all three suspects.  The adults were listed as a Nathan Antonacci and a Jason Horner.             

*Cheryl Casad, of Taylorville, was arrested on 11/02/09, at about 12:45a.m.  Officers learned that Casad was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Christian County authorities.

*On 11/03/09, a vehicle being driven by Michael Lamb, of Illiopolis was stopped.  It was discovered that Lamb was allegedly driving on a suspended license and driving without proof of insurance. 

*Scott Galluzzio, of Rochester, was arrested on 11/05/09.  Officers learned that Galluzzio was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.  He was transported to the Sangamon County Jail.

*Sometime prior to 11/06/09, a subject drove through the soccer fields at the Village Park damaging the fields.  Damage consisted of large ruts being left in several fields.  The cost to repair the fields has not been determined as yet.

*An unlocked vehicle parked in a drive on Sattley Street was burglarized sometime around 11/07/09.  Taken from the vehicle was a Nintendo DSI, a construction calculator and a small amount of money. 

*On 11/13/09, a resident from the Woodlands Subdivision contacted the police in reference to some type of telephone scam.  She stated she received a phone call from a subject who identified himself as her grandson and stated he needed money wired to him in order to get out of jail.  She went on to say that the caller stated he had been in a car accident and had been arrested in Canada for driving under the influence.  The caller then hung up, but a short time later she received a second call from a subject who stated he was an attorney who was representing her grandson.  He stated he was calling to make arrangements for the money transfer.  Prior to sending any money, the resident called the police.  She was informed that this is an ongoing scam directed at elderly residents.  Anyone who receives a call of this nature is advised to confirm all details prior to taking any action on the request for money.

*Joseph Smith, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, was stopped by police on 11/16/09.  Officers learned that Smith was driving without insurance and while his license was revoked out of Illinois and Oklahoma. 

*A stop of a vehicle on 11/20/09, at about 11:55a.m. resulted in the arrest of the driver for driving while his license was suspended.  Leon Hart of Springfield was ticketed for the alleged offense.

*A stop of a vehicle on 11/25/09, at about 7:00p.m., resulted in the arrest of the driver as she was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Macon County authorities.  The driver, April Hubbard of Assumption, was taken into custody and transported to the Sangamon County Jail.

*On 11/25/09, an officer was sent to the Rochester High School reference a student’s bicycle being stolen.  The victim had left the bike in the school bike rack earlier in the day and when he returned to get the bike found that it had been stolen.  The police department eventually located the bike and the suspect who allegedly stole the bike. 

*Officers were sent to a business on State Street at about 11:50p.m. on 11/28/09, in reference to a burglar alarm sounding.  Upon arrival officers learned that the building and numerous vehicles in the parking lot had been burglarized.  Officers eventually located two suspects, one adult and one juvenile, and took both into custody.  Reports have been forwarded reference all parties allegedly involved in the burglaries.  

*Officers were sent to a residence in the 400 block of South Walnut on 12/08/09, due to some type of domestic disturbance.  The victim reported to the police that she had been battered by her 18 year-old daughter while she was holding her 10 month old grandson.  Officers eventually arrested Shelby Skiles, of Rochester, for the alleged domestic battery.

*A vehicle being driven by Norman Chadwick of Nokomis was stopped on 12/16/09 due to the registration being expired.  After making contact with Chadwick the officer learned that Chadwick’s license was suspended.  Chadwick was ticketed for both alleged violations. 

*A vehicle stop conducted on 12/21/09, at 1:50a.m. resulted in the arrest of Michael Steinkuehler of Edinburg.  Steinkuehler was allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license.

*Adam Trader, of Springfield, was arrested on 12/23/09 due to an outstanding warrant.  Trader was taken into custody reference a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.

*On 12/25/09, officers learned of an arrest warrant which had been issued on a Garland Akers by Sangamon County authorities.  At 3:40p.m. Akers was arrested and taken to the Sangamon County Jail.
